Active Older Adults

The Y is for people of all ages, abilities and incomes. We count older adults as some of our most loyal members. At your Y, older adults have a chance to keep active and grow in spirit, mind and body. New friends and new opportunities add joy to life, and the Y also gives seniors a chance to share their time and talents with others, such as children and teens.

Programs for older adults include:
*Health and Fitness
*Swimming Classes
*Trips and Programs
*Social Clubs
*Senior Caring Days
*Volunteer and Service Learning
*Wally Ball

Aquatics

The Y has been teaching people to swim for more than a century. Children learn to be safe around water and they feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with learning something new. Youth progressive swimming is the YMCA's third most widely offered program nationwide. It uses a problem-solving, guided-discovery teaching approach in a positive, caring environment. Kids can develop lifelong skills that can help them stay healthy.

Other PR YMCA aquatics programs include infant-parent classes, preschool classes, classes for people with disabilities and classes for teens and adults. These include water exercise and therapy and water sports, including beginnier swimming and master competitive swimming for people 18 and over. Competitive programs are also available for youth.

YSplash is an aquatics orientation and safety program providing instruction on swimming skills and basic water safety. The nearly week-long event offers water familiarization, swim lessons and, often, pool games, contests and parent education sessions, usually at a nominal fee.

Child Care & Camps

The PR YMCA is dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable child care. We provide family-centered, values-based programs to nurture children's healthy development. Well-trained staff provide safe, affordable, high-quality care so you can have peace of mind while you work. Like all Y programs, child care is open to all, with financial aid available. Staff members are partners with parents and other caregivers, working together to help kids grow up healthy, happy and strong. Children enjoy a safe, healthy and fun environment with dedicated staff to help guide great decision making and appropriate lifestyle choices.

The Piscataquis Regional YMCA offers an after-school child-care program for children in kindergarten through grade five. All year, the YMCA will serve as an after school care center weekdays between 3:00pm and 6:00 pm.

Let us share our joy for life and social responsibility with your family. We are sure you will LOVE our program!

Children will enjoy a safe, healthy and fun environment with dedicated staff to help guide great decision making and appropriate lifestyle choices.

The children will be cared for by CPR/AED certified YMCA staff who will keep children occupied and entertained in numerous ways such as homework help, swim time, dance, dodge ball, outdoor games, and board games. They will be offered healthy snacks such as fruit, vegetables and granola bars.

Parents can register by visiting the PR YMCA or over the phone through the Welcome Center @564-7111. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and we are limited to 20 children.

Program Fee: Full Member $15.00 per child, per day. Program Member: $20.00 per child, per day. Cost savings available for multiple children enrolled. Inquire at the Membership Services Desk.

Hours: 3:00pm- 6:00pm Monday through Friday.

Health and Well-being

The Y has led community-based health and fitness for more than a century. Research continues to support the approach to health that YMCAs have taken since 1891 when Luther Gulick proposed the red YMCA triangle as a symbol of a person's "essential unity -- spirit, mind and body" each being a necessary and eternal part of man.' Participation in Y health and fitness programs offer opportunities for friendship and community, a sense of well-being, self-confidence, and improved mental abilities and cognition -- not to mention the obvious benefits of healthy hearts, lungs, bones and muscles. Ys believe exercise and health education are important for people of all ages, incomes and abilities.

Adult programs include strength training, injury rehabilitation, walking, personal fitness, exercise for beginners, yoga, tai chi, healthy back, weight management, and group exercise including aerobics, martial arts exercise, studio cycling, and much more. Many Ys offer stop-smoking programs and stress management classes. Hundreds of YMCAs collaborate with hospitals to provide these programs. The list of YMCA programs and services goes on and on.

Youth programs include preschool movement, youth fitness, teen fitness and kids' gyms. Many Y child care programs incorporate health and fitness, too. YMCA Healthy Kids® Day -- the Ys' annual, nationwide celebration of kids' health in spirit, mind and body -- brings family members together to learn how to live healthier lives.
